What is an Artist’s Manifesto?
‘The artists manifesto is a passport to modernity. To goddamned modernity. / And then to post-modernity. To poor, put-upon post-modernity. / And beyond.’ - Alex Danchev, 100 Artists’ Manifestos
The first Refugi and Company manifesto, The Grace Manifesto, was written in the autumn of 2015. Artists have a history of making public declarations of their intentions, particularly when the world starts to shake a little bit more than usual. At Refugi, The Artist’s Manifesto(s) is supported by The Monastic Rule of Life. The two are declarations of intent and the scaffolding of our practice.
A CALL TO MOVE BEYOND FEAR. AND DO THE WORK. TOGETHER.
